Caerlaverock Castle Quest 1.0

Engage with the intriguing characters of the Caerlaverock Castle household and explore their daily lives in 1312 through an immersive augmented reality (AR) experience offered by the Castle Quest game.

Utilize a 3D GPS map to locate virtual members of the castle as they gather in celebration of Sir Eustace Maxwell and Lady Agnes's homecoming. This experience allows players to:

• Listen to narratives from 11 distinct members of the castle staff
• Collect fragments of a flag from each character you encounter
• Assemble the complete flag to fulfill your challenge

Each character, ranging from the castle's cook to a monk from Sweetheart Abbey, offers fragments of the Maxwell flag, which had been torn apart during a siege. The task is to gather all pieces and reconstruct the flag.

However, proceed with caution—one character among them is a traitor. Can you discern their identity while collecting the flag pieces? The revelation awaits at the conclusion of your quest!

Using the App

Navigate through the castle and its grounds using the 3D GPS map to find characters. Upon reaching a designated spot, tap the AR button and point your device at the central image on the panel to reveal a character.

Don’t forget to request a piece of flag using the codeword: handkerchief, as you interact with each character!

About Caerlaverock Castle

With its distinctive moat, twin-towered gatehouse, and impressive battlements, Caerlaverock epitomizes a medieval stronghold. It once served as the principal residence for the Maxwell family, notable nobility in southern Scotland.

The Maxwells undertook various repairs and upgrades throughout their tenure; however, the castle faced multiple sieges during the Wars of Independence with England. Following a significant siege in 1640, it was stripped of valuable furnishings and has since ceased to serve as a defensive structure.
